Problem of Practice:
Stocks Elementary has approximately 500 students enrolled with an average class size of 21 students per class. This elementary school serves students from pre-K to 5th grade. The results of an initial survey indicated that teachers believed the morale of the school was low due to student conduct. Teachers believed that this adversely affected student performance and the overall school climate.
Research Question: Will the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Support, specifically check in/check out intervention, improve the culture of the school?
Research Question: Will the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Support, specifically check in/check out intervention, improve the culture of the school?
Logic Model:
Strategy: Check In/Check Out
Check In/Check Out is a behavior intervention used to motivate students and encourage them to improve their behavior goals. Students check in with a preferred adult before and after school. Students develop their behavior goals and work each day to achieve their goals. Students are rewarded once their goals are met. Discipline referral data was collected before and after implementation of the strategy for 15 students with repeated misconduct.

Results:
The number of reported incidents dropped for students using the check in/check out intervention. However, this did not significantly improve the overall morale of the school.
Recommendations:
- Protect planning time
- Provide professional development on ways to increase student engagement
- Encourage teachers to consistently enforce rules
- Consistently monitor student discipline data
- Ensure all staff are consistently following the PBIS matrix and reinforcing expected behaviors to enhance positive academic and social behavior outcomes
